Lance Armstrong a no-show at charity ride

Lance Armstrong was a no-show at a ride hosted by George Hincapie at Hotel Domestique in Travelers Rest Saturday morning. Hincapie's Gran Fondo ride was expected to be a chance for Armstrong to reunite with some of his cycling teammates, but earlier this week USA Cycling announced Armstrong could not participate due to his lifetime ban from the sport for using performance-enhancing drugs.

Lance Armstrong Banned From Charity Ride

Lance Armstrong is barred by the terms of a life ban for doping from participating in a charity bike ride this weekend that would have reunited him with former U.S. Postal Service teammates, USA Cycling ruled. Armstrong can't take part in the third annual Gran Fondo Hincapie in Greenville, South Carolina, on Oct. 26 because it constitutes an authorized activity by USA Cycling, the organization said in an e-mailed statement.

Photo: Tim De Waele USA Cycling issued a statement Thursday, addressing the planned participation of Lance Armstrong in this weekend's Gran Fondo Hincapie, declaring that, under WADA Code, Armstrong's lifetime ban prohibits him from riding in the USA Cycling-sanctioned "non-competitive" event.
